Further personnel changes will be made at the KURIER media house at the end of 2024. The previous managing director of the KURIER digital subsidiary k-digital, Martin Gaiger, will step down from his position at the end of the year at his own request. Gaiger has made a significant contribution to the success of all KURIER media platforms in recent years and has expanded the KURIER into one of the largest and most commercially successful online offerings in Austria. In addition to the main brand kurier.at, KURIER includes the platforms futurezone.at, film.at, events.at, kurier.tv and k.at, which is aimed at the young target group. In recent years, the portfolio has been expanded through the takeover of “Profil” by KURIER. Two years ago, the website “freizeit.at”, which focuses on lifestyle, fashion and culinary delights, was launched for the successful Saturday magazine “Freizeit”. Martin Gaiger’s position will be filled after the end of the current strategy process.
There will also be changes in the KURIER editorial team. The editor-in-chief of “Freizeit” and the new health magazine “Leben”, Marlene Auer, will move up to deputy editor-in-chief under editor-in-chief Martin Gebhart and alongside deputy editor-in-chief Gert Korentschnig, and will be responsible for the entire “soft news” section in the KURIER. “Leisure” is one of the KURIER media company’s most successful products and has been run by Auer for six years. In the last few months she has already taken over editorial responsibility and coordination for the soft news topics in the main newspaper.
A new deputy editor-in-chief for the “Hard News” section will be added in the next few weeks. The position will be advertised and both internal and external candidates will be considered. In addition to the areas of domestic and foreign policy as well as chronicles, sport and culture, a particular focus is placed on the topic of “economy”, which the KURIER would like to cover even more in its media in the future.
KURIER managing director Richard Grasl: “I would like to thank Martin Gaiger for his work at KURIER and his commitment in the areas of advertising marketing and technical development. We part ways on the best of terms. Martin Gaiger will be available to us with his expertise and commitment until June and will ensure an orderly transition during this time.”
Martin Gaiger: “It gave me enormous pleasure to have built the KURIER online network into an exemplary success over the last 10 years. I would especially like to thank my great team and all colleagues in management for the great collaboration. In the future, I will focus more on the commercial use of new technologies.”
Editor-in-chief Martin Gebhart comments on the reorganization in the KURIER editorial team: “We are rearranging the hard news and soft news areas in the editorial department. Marlene Auer, who has been working in a managerial position at KURIER for almost 6 years, is now responsible for the soft news area as deputy editor-in-chief. We will announce a personnel decision for the hard news area in the coming weeks. Gert Korentschnig remains as deputy. Editor-in-Chief provides my direct representation in day-to-day business and is primarily responsible for the important and wide-reaching Sunday edition.”
“I am looking forward to continuing to successfully shape the future of the media company in this additional role,” said Marlene Auer. “Together with the great editorial team, we are continuing the path for the strong media brand KURIER and offering quality journalism across all products. “In addition, innovations such as the new health magazine and the further development of the leisure world show how important it is as a modern media company to keep up with the times and to address not only existing target groups, but also new readers.”
