One day following they met temporary closures made by the Sectional Secretariat of Health of Antioquia to various services of the Hospital General de Medellín (HGM) Due to “non-compliance with the single authorization system”, the Personería began a process of administrative surveillance of the institution.
That agency of the Public Ministry reported this Thursday, September 29, that the process is carried out by the suspension of some health care services that had to be done following the sealings carried out by the Sectional in its work of inspection, surveillance and control.
“It is preliminary known that closures were executed in the outer query area and in areas that would have hospitalized cancer patients, for presumably not meeting the necessary conditions for its proper functioning. In addition, it was also known that some imaging services such as tomography, radiology and magnetic resonance imaging were left operating with restrictions”, indicated the Personería in a statement.
Previously, following learning of the actions of the Department’s Health Secretariat, the HGM had issued a statement in which ratified the commitment to the provision of services “dignified, humanized, safe and of quality”, a task in which they strive to fulfill daily, while clarifying that several of the observations of the departmental unit have already been applied, with which aspects were corrected.
“We are aware that we will resolve the observations in the shortest time possible and we are already working in that direction. We are grateful for these early warnings that are given within the framework of the verification of health services, continuous improvement and improvement plans, which does not affect their provision, so patient care is guaranteed safelytimely and effective,” the hospital said.
What does the surveillance of the Personería consist of?
The personero William Yeffer Vivas explained that it is a preventive surveillance to analyze the decision of the Secretariat and determine if there were omissions on the part of the authorities and hospital officials who may deserve “disciplinary reproaches.”
The measures that the HGM has undertaken to correct the alleged shortcomings that led to the closure of services and to reactivate them as soon as possible in their entirety will also be studied.
The Personería also seeks to know what the alternatives that patients will have during the time that services are suspended.
That’s the way it is, the District Personería of Medellín will officiate at the hospital and the departmental health section to deliver the evidence that allows surveillance to be carried out.
“The present action that will be carried out in accordance with the legal system, with strict respect for due process and will culminate with a report through which it will be warned if there are reprehensible disciplinary conducts,” concluded the dependency of the Public Ministry.
From the union of hospital workers, Sinprogen, they have been emphatic that the employees have fulfilled their duties fully to provide a quality service to users and urged the administration to listen to the requirements of the employees and makes himself available to move the institution forward from the difficult moment it is going through.
“The official must always make every effort so that his job is in optimal conditions and deliver all his productive capacity to the institution, but it is the company that must place at his disposal the elements to carry out that productivity”, reads the statement they published following learning of the closures.
