In the early Friday followingnoon, a fatal accident occurred on Lake Biel in the municipality of Ligerz BE, according to the Bern canton police. Accordingly, near St. Peter’s Island there was a collision between a scheduled boat of the BSG Bielersee Schifffahrtsgesellschaft and a sailing boat.
According to the latest findings of the Bern police, the scheduled boat was coming from St. Petersinsel in the direction of Biel when, for reasons that are still unclear, it collided with the sailing boat. A person who was alone on the sailing boat fell into the water and died in the course of further events, according to the police.
There are clues as to the identity of the deceased, but formal identification is still pending. The sailing boat without a crew was found and secured in a nearby reedy area by the deployed employees of the maritime police of the cantonal police in Bern. The scheduled ship with the passengers was driven to the port of Biel for further clarification. An accident is in the foreground. (chs)
