The driver, of Slovenian nationality, was intercepted by customs at the large Boulou toll gate before being tried and sentenced this Friday, February 9, 2024 by the Perpignan criminal court. He received two and a half years in prison.

Perthus customs agents, stationed this Tuesday, February 6 at the end of the morning on the A9 motorway near the large Boulou toll gate, carried out an inspection of a sedan registered in the Czech Republic coming from Spain. The driver of Slovenian nationality immediately declares that he comes from Barcelona where he stayed for tourist reasons and is returning to his country.

300,000 euros fine

Not enough to convince the customs officers who decided to deepen their checks and carry out a complete search of the vehicle. It was then, by dismantling the front of the car radio, that they discovered a cache containing three transparent bags and a trash bag. All containing four kilos of cocaine.

The driver was immediately placed in customs detention and handed over to the Perpignan judicial police services responsible for further investigations. He was finally presented this Friday for immediate appearance before the Perpignan judicial court and sentenced to 30 months of imprisonment with continued detention, 5 years of ban from national territory and a customs fine of €300,000.
