Perpetrators on the run: shots in Jesolo: one seriously injured and panic among tourists

Shock for many holidaymakers: shots were fired in front of a restaurant in Via Verdi in Jesolo on Wednesday night. The victim suffered serious back injuries. According to the Italian news agency “Ansa”, a dispute between two men of non-Italian origin escalated in a bar.

The incident happened around 11:30 p.m. In the center of Jesolo, the bars between Via Verdi, Piazza Marina and Piazza Nember were still busy when the shooting happened.

One of the two opponents drew his gun in front of a bar and fired two shots. One of the two shots missed, but one hit. According to eyewitnesses, one shot the other in the back as the latter attempted to flee, the local edition of Italian daily Il Gazzettino reports online. “There was a panic. Many were shocked when they heard the shots and fled to bars. Some also ducked behind parked cars,” said a hotelier on the regional state television evening news of Rai Veneto.
The seriously injured gunshot victim fled and was only caught hours later. The man was taken to the Venice Mestre hospital and is currently being monitored. He shouldn’t be in mortal danger.

Sagittarius is still wanted

The shooter also ran away. He has not yet been located. A police manhunt is underway. In addition, the recordings of the local surveillance cameras are evaluated and witnesses are questioned.

According to the police, the argument was probably regarding a settlement between drug dealers. “It was regarding a settlement between two people who were known to the office and who had not involved anyone else,” Jesolo Mayor Christofer De Zotti told Il Gazzettino. The fact that one of the two people involved was found extremely quickly by the police shows the functioning system of the security forces in Jesolo.
