Conglomerates were actually allowed to enter the used car sales business.
The Ministry of SMEs and Startups (Ministry of SMEs and Startups) announced on the 17th that it had held the ‘Deliberation Committee for Subsistence Types’ related to the used car sales business and deliberated and decided not to designate the ‘Used Car Sales Business’ as a suitable business for living.
The Ministry of SMEs and Startups explained that the committee made this decision for reasons such as the low proportion of small business owners in the used car sales industry compared to the existing wholesale and retail business or automobile and parts sales business, the continued growth of the used car market, reverse discrimination between large companies, and consumer welfare.
However, although the Deliberation Committee does not designate the used car sales business as a suitable business for a livelihood, damage to SMEs and small business owners is expected when Hyundai Motor and Kia enter the used car market. They also suggested that appropriate measures should be taken.
Meanwhile, the Deliberation Committee is composed of all 15 members, including small business owners, SMEs, medium-sized enterprises and large corporations (corporations) and those recommended by the Shared Growth Committee.
In this meeting, following receiving a report on the results of the supplementary fact-finding research service requested by the Deliberation Committee held on January 14, and hearing opinions from the requesting organization and stakeholders, the designation was deliberated.
