Permanent membership of the UN Security Council: France supports India, Germany, Brazil and Japan | France backs India, 3 nations to be permanent UN security council members

United Nations: France has reiterated its support for the permanent membership of India, Germany, Brazil and Japan in the expanded UN Security Council. France supports the candidacy of Germany, Brazil, India and Japan for permanent membership. We want to see a strong presence of African countries, including permanent members, in the UN.

She was speaking at the UN General Assembly Plenary Session on the ‘Question and Increase of Equal Representation in Membership of the Security Council and other matters relating to the Security Council’. Broadhurst said that the emergence of new powers willing and able to assume the responsibility of a permanent presence on the Security Council must be taken into account. Broadhurst said the expanded committee might have up to 25 members.

The UK also announced its support for making India, Germany, Japan and Brazil permanent members of the expanded UN Security Council. Among the five permanent members of the 15-nation council, the US, UK, France and Russia have also expressed support for India’s permanent membership in the UN body.
