The Chilean Football Association announced the signing of Argentine coach Eduardo Pereso to replace Uruguayan Martin Lasarte, who resigned following failing to qualify for the 2022 World Cup.
Lasarte, the former coach of the Egyptian Al-Ahly club and the Emirati Al-Wasl club, left his position following 15 months at the helm of the technical management of Chile, which finished the South American qualifiers in seventh place.
“We have a coach, he is Eduardo Pereso, who is known in Chilean football and has extensive international experience,” Chilean Football Association president Pablo Milad said on his Twitter account.
And the 52-year-old Beriso previously worked in the technical management of the Chilean national team, when he served as assistant coach to his compatriot Marcelo Bielsa between 2007 and 2010, in his first training experience following his retirement from playing.
He occupied the center of defense in his football career and played 13 international matches with his country, and was twice in his country’s squad in the Copa America, although he played only one match.
He played for Newell’s Old Boys, River Plate, Mexican Atlas, Marseille, Celta Vigo and Cadiz, Spain.
He achieved great success in his training station in Chile, where he led the CD O’Higgins team to the first title in its history “the inaugural championship”, in 2013 following leading it to second place in the previous year “2012”.
He trained in Spain between 2014 and 2018, before taking over the Paraguay national team in 2019.
He trained Paraguay in two copies of the Copa America before he was sacked in October 2021 following losing to Bolivia 0-4 in the South American qualifiers for the World Cup.
