Magdy Tawfik, Vice President revealed Perfumery Division in the Chamber of Commercethat saffron in Egypt records high price levels, due to its high prices abroad and the difficulty of growing it in Egypt, where the price of a gram reaches 320 pounds for the original type, whether Iranian or Afghani.

He added, in exclusive statements to “The Seventh Day”, that the original kilo of saffron exceeded 32,000 pounds in the Egyptian market, and is only available at major perfumers and large chains, noting that the demand and demand for it is not great because of its high prices.

The deputy head of the Perfumery Division pointed out that saffron of all kinds is not only used for food, as some believe, but is used in the manufacture of a large number of medicines, and its production and cultivation is very expensive and requires a climate completely different from the Egyptian climate, so the efforts of its cultivation in Egypt did not succeed.

For example, Iranian saffron has 7 degrees, and Afghani also, pointing out that its prices vary from one country to another, but in general its prices are above the possibility of the consuming classes.
