The perfume industry continues in Syria, despite the successive crises the country suffers from, the difficulty of importing, and the absence of electricity.

Mazen Zakour has been working in the field of perfumes since he was young. He used to visit his father and grandfather’s shop, observe their work and gain experience from them, and learn to make the best perfume products from oil, distilled water and alcohol.

Traditional and Western scents emanate from his small shop on Al-Hamra Street in the Syrian capital, Damascus. The forty-year-old perfume maker Mazen Zakour is always keen to spray the notes of his products to attract passers-by on the road.

And after the Syrian crisis affected the various sectors of the country, the perfume industry was also affected, and importing oils became very difficult and extracting them very expensive, so Zakour worked on manufacturing his own device to extract the oils needed to produce perfumes.

In light of the electricity crisis in Syria, it is still difficult to operate the device, and despite that, Zakour believes that it is still competing in the perfume industry market.
