Indonesian PECATUR IM Aditya Bagus Arfan managed to record a victory in the fifth round of the Pertamina-Mandiri Indonesian GM Tournament 2024 following defeating his opponent from Vietnam, GM Thien Hai Dao, Friday (26/4).
The results of the match at the Artotel Gelora Senayan Hotel, Jakarta, made Aditya have 4 points. Next, in the sixth round which will be played on Saturday (27/4), Aditya will face an Asian chess legend from the Philippines, namely Eugenio Torre.
“Torre is a strong chess player and is listed as the first Asian chess player to hold the title of Grand Master. I will try to give my best fight once morest him,” said Aditya regarding Torre.
Even though his opponent is a famous chess player, Aditya doesn’t want to worry regarding it because following Torre there are other opponents who are also great, such as GM Novendra Priasmoro and IM Yoseph Taher. He also doesn’t want to think too much regarding GM’s target norms.
Separately, PB Percasi’s Head of Development and Achievement Division, Kristianus Liem, said he was happy because the chess player from Aditya was able to achieve a fairly satisfying achievement.
Moreover, in the third and fourth rounds, Aditya fought GM Temur Kuybakarov and GM Susanto Megaranto. With the two GM chess players, Aditya achieved a draw.
“Indeed, physical condition is one of the keys to performing well apart from game strategy and with the remaining rounds, not only Aditya, but other Indonesian chess players must maintain fitness,” hoped Kristianus Liem. (Z-6)
