I’m sure this cod recipe will leave your mouth watering. A super classic cod recipe that will make your family lunches even more delicious.
Just as it is easy to make, it is also delicious.
Simple codfish
Bacalhoada is one of those classic cod recipes that is always a hit. Of Portuguese origin, its characteristic is to have larger pieces, both of cod and side dishes.
The final preparation is done in the oven and you can combine different vegetables.
Which cod to choose
Without a doubt, choosing the right cut of cod is a concern you must have. After all, as I said, the fish comes in larger pieces. For this, I recommend buying steaks, whether large or smaller, like the one we use.
I generally prefer the salted version, as I find it tastier. But you can opt for frozen and desalted cuts if you want to make the process even easier.
But, if you choose the salted version, remember that the ideal is to hydrate the fish, in the refrigerator, for a few hours, as well as cooking to remove excess salt. See here all our tips for preparing cod for your recipe.

Delicious codfish and very easy to make! Perfect to serve at a family lunch.
Ingredients
- 800 g of cod fillets;
- 400 g of potatoes (here we use the Calabrian version);
- 1 small yellow pepper;
- 1 small red pepper;
- 1 medium red onion;
- 3 cloves of garlic;
- 200 g of cherry tomatoes;
- 1/2 cup of olive oil;
- olives to taste;
- Salt and black pepper to taste.
Instructions
- Start by cooking your cod fillets. If you use the salted version, you will need to change the water 2 to 3 times to remove excess salt. If you use the frozen and salt-free option, you will not need to change the water and 15 minutes should be enough – for more tips, click here;
- Right following this step, cut your fish into large pieces. In the same way, cut the onion and peppers into large cubes;
- In a dish that fits all the ingredients in a single layer, add 1/4 of the amount of olive oil to the bottom;
- Then, mix the cod, onion, peppers, potatoes, chopped garlic and tomatoes in this dish and finish with the rest of the olive oil, salt and pepper to taste;
- Cover your dish with aluminum foil and bake at an average temperature of 180° for 40 minutes or until the vegetables are very soft;
- Before serving, add the olives!
