On the occasion of D23, a lot of films and series from Disney licenses were revealed. This time, it’s the turn of the Percy Jackson and the Olympians series to show us its first trailer!

The announcements were legion overnight and the first official trailer for the upcoming Percy Jackson series was released. From his full name: “Percy Jackson and the Olympians”, co-created with the author of the books Rick Riordan, Dan Shotz and Jonathan E. Steinberg, each season should be adapted from a book. There are five in total so if the series is liked by the public, one can easily hope for the corresponding number of seasons. For the moment, no date has yet been officially announced, but we can expect that the series will not be released at the end of the year. A priori, it would rather be for 2023.

A demigod in turmoil

To the saga Percy Jackson follows the adventures of a 12-year-old modern demigod, who begins to realize his supernatural powers. Percy is none other than the son of Poseidon, the god of the seas. Beginning training to master his powers, he will befriend other demigodsall like him.

The trailer shows us the sets of Percy’s training camp in the woods, but also many unknown faces. We can notably find Walker Scobell (Adam through time) in the main role, Leah Jeffries who plays Annabeth Chase and Aryan Simhadri in the role of Grover Underwood, the best friend satyr (the creature, not the term) of the hero.

A wind of renewal after the failures of the past

This new Disney+ series is not a sequel to the films released in 2010 (Percy Jackson: The Lightning Thief) and 2013 (Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters). Rather, it seems to be a reboot complet. This is not necessarily a bad thing, because even if the two previous proposals did not achieve catastrophic scores at the box office, fans clearly weren’t unanimous. Already more than 10 years since the last film was released, a wind of renewal on the license is therefore welcome. Fans of the literary saga will have the pleasure of rediscovering this fantastic universe tinged with a more than seductive mythology.
