Acting Chairman of the Indonesian Basketball Association (Perbasi) Ardima Rama Putra said that collaboration with the International Basketball Federation (FIBA), which is now headquartered in Jakarta, has opened the way for Indonesia to hold world championships.

“We have prepared the way for Indonesia to be able to host FIBA world championships, especially for age groups,” said Ardima as reported by BetweenThursday (19/9).

Ardima said that the FIBA Office in Jakarta, which was inaugurated on Tuesday (17/9) by President Joko Widodo, would strengthen cooperation with the world federation.

He said the collaboration between FIBA and Perbasi would touch on many things, from coaching athletes, coaches, referees, to industrial development.

“We have prepared a program touring Indonesia to make basketball more popular,” he said.

The partnership with FIBA is expected to hone Perbasi’s experience to be better prepared to organize various world basketball championships in Indonesia.

Not only that, the quality and quantity of players and coaches are also expected to increase so that Indonesian national teams at all levels can compete at the international level.

“Of course, all of this can be achieved with government support,” said Ardima.

Perbasi targets Indonesia to host several international basketball tournaments, especially age groups, from 2027 to 2030, one of which is the 2027 FIBA U-19 Women’s World Cup.

Perbasi, which has submitted a bid to host the tournament to FIBA, is confident it can organize the tournament after successfully rolling out the 2023 FIBA World Cup.

Perbasi has now started looking for talented female basketball players to join the championship. (Z-6)
