In the Sahiwal tragedy case, great disappointment is being expressed over the acquittal of all the accused and former Pakistani cricketer Shahid Afridi also expressed his reaction to this decision.
Shahid Afridi took to micro-blogging website Twitter and wrote a hadith of the Holy Prophet with the hashtag Sahiwal: ‘People before you were destroyed because they used to punish the poor and pardon the rich. . By God, my life is in his hands! If Fatimah (daughter of the Holy Prophet) did this (stolen), I will cut off her hand.’
Shahid Afridi wrote Sahiwal in the hashtag after writing the Hadith of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), indicating that he tweeted this on the decision of the Sahiwal tragedy case.
It should be noted that the Special Anti-Terrorism Court in Lahore had acquitted all the accused by giving the benefit of doubt while pronouncing the verdict in the Sahiwal tragedy case.
The court recorded the statements of 49 witnesses, including the brother of the deceased Zeeshan and Khalil’s children, but all the witnesses refused to identify the accused in front of the court.
After completing the cross-examination after 9 months on the statements of the lawyers and government witnesses in the case, the court acquitted all the 6 accused giving the benefit of doubt.
Background of Sahiwal Tragedy:
It may be recalled that on the afternoon of January 19, CTD fired indiscriminately at a vehicle on GT Road near Sahiwal, as a result of which Khalil, his wife, daughter and local resident Zeeshan were killed by bullets. Three children were also injured.
The CTD gave conflicting statements after the incident, first describing the incident as the rescue of children, and later declaring one of those killed as a terrorist after the video surfaced.
However, after the matter came to the media, the Prime Minister took notice of the incident and the CTD officials were detained and a JIT was formed for investigation.
