Millions of viewers did not appreciate the director’s work.

Leonid Gaidai presented the audience with dozens of bright films that have long been included in the classics of both domestic and world cinema. Fans never skimped on compliments to the director, and only one of his films was criticized by the public.

At the very end of the 80s, the director, who was already 66 years old, presented the crime comedy “Private Detective, or Operation Cooperation.” He invited Dmitry Kharatyan, Spartak Mishulin and Irina Feofanova to play the main roles, and the whole plot is built around the private detective Dmitry Puzyrev.

Gaidai’s work did not leave the audience indifferent, but fans were not eager to shower the director with compliments. Gaidai was criticized for an unclear plot, an unsuccessful acting ensemble and unfunny dialogues. And the audience even left the sessions, which made “Private Detective” the director’s most disastrous film from a financial point of view.

And years later, experts and ordinary viewers agreed that this particular crime comedy can safely be considered the worst film of the legend of Soviet cinema.
