People in Thu Duc City hand over 2 ‘terrible’ ground pythons to forest rangers

(PLO)- 2 men in Thu Duc City, Ho Chi Minh City handed over two pythons weighing tens of kilograms.

On February 28, the Forest Protection Department of Ho Chi Minh City just received and rescued two female pythons voluntarily assigned by Mr. Nguyen Van Thang and Mr. Nguyen Thanh Phi (who live in Thu Duc City, Ho Chi Minh City).

Accordingly, Mr. Thang (Phuoc Long B ward, Thu Duc city) assigned the ranger a female python, weighing regarding 42 kg and regarding 4.5 meters long.

The forest rangers went to Mr. Thang’s house to inject anesthetic into the python and take it out of the cage.

Mr. Thang said, regarding 3 years ago, his son was given a python the size of a finger by a friend.

The animal has been raised by the family so far. However, the python is getting bigger and bigger, fearing that the animal will escape the cage and cause harm, so Mr. Thang contacted the ranger to deliver. “I want the python to be released back to its environment and breed other pythons,” Thang said.

Mr. Phi (Binh Chieu ward, Thu Duc city) also voluntarily handed over the python weighing regarding 21 kg and over 3 meters long. The animal has been raised by a nephew for Mr. Phi for more than 5 years.

The two pythons above are female pythons, with the scientific name Python bivittatus, belonging to group IIB in the list of rare and endangered forest animals.

The pair of ground pythons will be taken to rescue care at the Wildlife Rescue Station in Cu Chi before being released back into the wild.
