People from Tachira on hunger strike before the UN ask other countries to introduce a document with their requests

Daniel Prado and Franklin Gómez are from San Cristóbal, Táchira state. More than 144 hours ago, on August 7, they began a hunger strike in front of the United Nations (UN) headquarters, to ask the Secretary General of this organization, António Guterres, to publish a report on the monitoring he carried out in the presidential elections of July 28.

In a video recorded for Diario de Los Andes, in which they are sitting in front of two Venezuelan flags, they stated that the idea is for the entire world to turn its eyes on this South American country, and so, through a document and their hunger strike, they are requesting not only the publication of the report, but also that the UN Security Council call for an informal extraordinary meeting with a motion of urgency to discuss Venezuelan issues under the Arria modality, which would allow Venezuelan citizens to participate.

“We will be here, on this hunger strike, which is currently more than 144 hours old, until the report is published and until this session is convened,” said Daniel Prado, who added that there has been no direct contact with UN officials so far.

He said that the UN asks that any request be made through the mission that Nicolás Maduro has before the organization, so now they are asking the nations of the world to introduce this document on their behalf. “We have made the decision to begin asking the nations of the world to introduce this document on our behalf, so today (August 13) we are going to start a campaign in which this document will be delivered to different delegations so that they will be in charge of introducing it on our behalf before the UN,” he said.

For his part, Franklin Gómez indicated that all Venezuelans can sign this document, which can be found on his Instagram profiles @franlexico and @imdanielpraddp. “If you are anywhere in the world, you can be part of this beautiful initiative,” he added.

Gomez said that they left Venezuela more than seven years ago, but Venezuela never left them, so they decided to make this physical effort to stop eating, to ask for support for the country.
