A five-year-old businesswoman went to the “Apple Store” in the APM shopping mall in Kwun Tong last year, hoping that the store clerk would help her install “Safe Travel”. During the period, she claimed that the clerk had a bad attitude and made a lot of noise in the store, not only destroying many mobile phones and computers in the store, but also using the iPhone on the display stand as a weapon, hitting the clerk twice in the head, and the whole process was photographed. She earlier pleaded guilty to criminal damage and common assault. She was sentenced to probation for one year at Kwun Tong Magistrates’ Courts this morning (22nd) and she has to pay HK$1,000 in court fees.
The 51-year-old defendant, Zhou Shuyi, reported working as a businessman. The defense pleaded for mercy and the court issued a probation order, and pointed out that the defendant was willing to compensate the injured employee and the “Apple Store”; however, the prosecution did not apply for a court compensation order because the amount of compensation exceeded the upper limit. Chief Magistrate Qian Li accepted the report’s recommendations and sentenced the defendant to probation for one year, during which the defendant must comply with a series of special conditions, including attending a mental or psychological assessment, receiving counselling and attending a rehabilitation team as directed.
The defendant admitted that on June 17, 2021, at the “Apple Store” on the 1st floor of apm, Millennium City Phase 5, 418 Kwun Tong Road, without legal excuse, he damaged 16 electronic products belonging to Apple, including 6 Macbook Pros, etc. The total value is HK$148,584. She also admitted to attacking the woman Gengping at the same place on the same day. According to the case, at 8 o’clock that night, the defendant went to the scene of the crime and asked the clerk to help her install “Safe Travel”, and Geng Ping, a 49-year-old female clerk, stepped forward to assist her. During the period, the defendant was dissatisfied with Geng’s attitude, criticized Geng for not being able to help her solve the problem, and being emotional, he dropped the electronic products on the display stand, and other shop assistants tried to appease her but were unsuccessful. The defendant picked up another iPhone 12 mini and slammed Chao Geng’s head twice. A passerby took pictures of the whole process. Geng was discharged from the hospital on the same day following being sent to the hospital for treatment. The accused was later arrested and admitted under caution that he committed the crime out of anger.
