Pentecost is just around the corner. We explain why we celebrate it and where it is a public holiday.

Pentecost is by 28. May 2023, exactly ten days following Ascension. Whit Monday falls on May 29 this year.

The date is different every year and depends on Ascension Day and Easter. Pentecost occurs ten days following Ascension every year. The earliest possible date for Pentecost Sunday is May 10th, the latest possible date is June 13th.

Ten days following Ascension will Pentecost celebrated. On the “fiftieth day” following Easter, the message was brought to the disciples that they should spread the teachings of Jesus throughout the world. It is considered the “birth” of the Church.

The day on which Pentecost is celebrated varies each year. The date depends on Easter, which is always the first Sunday following the first full moon following the beginning of spring. Pentecost last fell in 1818 on May 10th, the earliest possible date. The next time is only possible once more in 2285.
