Pensions: Final end to personal dispute for 685,000 pensioners [Οι αναλυτικοί πίνακες για όλα τα Ταμεία] 2024-08-09 17:41:46

Of the total of 1.2 million pensioners who “obtained” the positive personal difference in the first recalculation of pensions in 2019 with the Katrougalou law, almost 500,000 have today succeeded in reducing it to 100%, while there remain approximately 685,000 pensioners who will see their personal difference reduced to zero in the coming years.

Most of those who maintain a personal difference have more than 30 years of insurance, they are mostly old pensioners and from the recalculation they had with the replacement rates of the Vroutsis law, but also with the two pension increases of 2023 and 2024 (7.75% and 3%), have managed to reduce the initial personal difference by up to 98%.

The “Insurance and Pensions” insert today reveals, with valid and official tables for all Funds, the timetable for the complete elimination of the personal difference from pensions that still maintain a small or large balance.

With an average increase of 30 to 35 euros per year, pensioners who have a personal difference balance of up to 95 euros will have it zero in 1 to 3 years.

With an average pension increase of 3% over the next few years, the increases pensioners will need to close the personal gap are:

  1. A one-year increase for those who receive a national and compensatory pension of 1,200 euros with a difference balance of up to 35 euros.
  2. A one-year increase for those who receive a national and compensatory pension of 861 euros with a difference balance of up to 15 euros.
  3. Two-year increases for those who receive a national and compensatory pension of 800 euros with a difference balance of up to 50 euros.
  4. Three-year increases for those receiving a national and compensatory pension of 1,500 euros with a difference balance of 120 to 130 euros.
  5. Six-year increases for those receiving a national and compensatory pension of 1,250 euros with a difference balance of 212 euros.

Already with the 2024 increases, approximately 95,000 pensioners have zeroed out the personal difference and received a small, but clear increase in their pocket.

In the tables of pensions and personal differences of old pensioners with 35 to 40 years of insurance revealed today by the insert “Insurance and Pensions” it appears that many pensioners have already zeroed out the initial personal difference in three stages: a) in the pension recalculation by law 4670 (Vroutsis law), b) with the 7.75% increase for 2023 and c) with the 3% increase for 2024.

However, many who have a balance greater than the personal difference (e.g. 140 euros or 250 euros) will wait another 5 years for the difference to zero, unless in the future it is decided to make a horizontal haircut of the personal difference, in order to see a real increase in their pensions more quickly.

Should the increase in pensions also be calculated on the personal difference?

The increase should be calculated on the entire amount of the pension, i.e. national, compensatory pension and the personal difference, because the personal difference is part of the original pension, while it is also included in the income tax.

With these data, since it is considered income, it should also be subject to increases, not only taxation. If the personal difference in the increase of the pension were calculated, then its nullification would come sooner. On the other hand, however, the fact that the personal difference is outside of the increase also has collateral “benefits”, as it is excluded from the deduction of the 6% sickness contribution, while it is not included in the pension amount that is subject to EAS deduction from the 1,400 euros and above.

How and when personal difference is extinguished – Examples

With an average annual increase of 3% over the next few years, most people with a balance will manage to close the personal gap to zero by 2025 to 2027.

For example:

  1. State pensioners aged 35 receive an average of 1,057 euros in compensatory and national pension before tax with a personal difference balance of 94 euros, while the original was 256 euros. With an average annual increase of around 32 euros, they will zero out the personal difference in 2027.
  2. Old-age pensioners of the IKA with 35 years today receive an average of 1,169 euros compensatory and national pension with zero personal difference balance, because they already eliminated it with the increases.
  3. PPC old-age pensioners with 36 years receive an average of 1,394 euros compensatory and national pension with a personal difference balance of 33 euros from 255 euros that was originally. With an average annual increase of 42 euros, they will zero out the personal difference in 2025.
  4. OAEE-TEBE old-age pensioners with 36 years receive an average of 814 euros compensatory and national pension with a personal difference balance of 247 euros from 370 euros that was originally. With an average annual increase of 24 euros, they will zero out the personal difference around 2032.
