The government is “stubborn and off track,” said the new boss of the CGT union, Sophie Binet, on Wednesday in Paris following a meeting with Prime Minister Elisabeth Borne.
Another protest and strike day is already planned for today, Thursday. “We must continue the mobilization to the end, until the government understands that there is no other way out than to withdraw this reform,” said Binet. The head of the CFDT union, Laurent Berger, also called for people to join the protest marches. The protests are directed once morest the gradual increase in the retirement age from 62 to 64 years. The reform is still being reviewed by the Constitutional Council. President Emmanuel Macron wants it to come into force by the end of the year.
