In Senegal, a new verbal battle yesterday night, on the eve of the proclamation of the official results of the legislative elections last Sunday, which is scheduled for Thursday followingnoon at 5 p.m. (UT) at the Dakar courthouse. While both the power and the opposition continue to claim victory, the score seems very tight to determine which coalition will have the majority in the National Assembly.

The suspension of the publication of the results, scheduled for the followingnoon, is what Déthié Fall, one of the leaders of the opposition coalition, asked for. Yewwi Askan With. Enough to give him time to examine his complaints following irregularities and fraud he has noted.

“We are not going to accept a confiscation of the victory,” then declared Ousmane Sonko, another figure in this coalition which has formed an alliance with Wallu Senegal led by former President Abdoulaye Wade.

An hour later, it was the turn of the ruling coalition -Benno Bokk Yakaard- to react. Amadou Sall, their representative on the National Commission for the Census of Votes, spoke of “manipulation”, considering that the electoral process had taken place so far without major challenge.

“The performance of the opposition does not make it a majority group in the National Assembly. We have the majority, even if it is reduced”, he acknowledged, while Benno Bokk Yakaar had obtained 125 seats out of 165 in the previous legislative elections of 2017.
