Montevideo, Feb 12 (EFE).- Peñarol qualified for the semifinals of the AUF Uruguay Cup this Monday by defeating Liverpool 3-1, the team that took the Uruguayan Championship title from them in December.
The match at the Campeón del Siglo stadium started rough. After ten minutes, the black and blue defender Ignacio Rodríguez was sent off with a confirmation from the VAR for an attack on forward Maximiliano Silvera.
With one less player, Liverpool coach Emiliano Alfaro covered himself with the entry of Jean Pierre Rosso and, despite the solidity of the offensive of the aurinegro team, the black and blue were the first to score.
Striker Luciano Rodríguez violated Washington Aguerre’s goal in the 30th minute.
Before the end of the first half, the coal team took advantage of a failure by Liverpool’s defense and Leonardo Fernández established the tie.
Liverpool left-back Miguel Samudio was the second sent off, for handball, and claims for the red card once morest the Paraguayan led to fights between the players. His rival Maximiliano Silvera then received the red card.
Giménez’s reds continued and wreaked havoc on the black and blue team, which ended with five players sent off, one of them previously replaced by Alfaro, so Liverpool remained in the game with seven of eleven.
From a penalty, Fernández was able to convert the second in a night that ended in a hat trick for the midfielder, who was also the author of the last goal with a new penalty once morest the black and blues.
