Pemra’s decision to stop broadcasting Bol News and Bol Entertainment

Pakistan’s Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) has announced that the broadcast of both channels is being stopped due to non-issue of security clearance by the Ministry of Interior.

The statement issued by Pemra said that this decision was taken in the 174th meeting of Pemra on Monday, which was held at the Pemra Merkarzi office under the chairmanship of Pemra Muhammad Saleem Baig.

In Monday’s meeting, PEMRA reviewed issues related to the license issued to Bol News and Bol Entertainment.

The Authority was informed that the issued licenses of Lubbock Private Limited were canceled by the Authority in the 131st meeting in 2017.

According to Pemra’s statement, the cancellation of the licenses was done due to non-issue of security clearance by the Ministry of Interior.

According to the statement, the order of the authority in this regard remained pending in the Sindh High Court on behalf of the institution and the channels continued their broadcasting.

Sindh High Court disposed of the pending case in 2021. During the hearing, Pemra’s counsel had taken a clear stand that if the Ministry of Interior does not issue the security clearance of Labak Private Limited, then Pemra will not allow the two channels (Bol News and Bol Entertainment) to broadcast.

In the same context, in the meeting held on Monday, the Authority, while reviewing all the records of the court order and the letters issued by the Ministry of Interior, immediately stopped the broadcasting of the channels of the licenses (Bol News and Bol Entertainment) issued to Labak Private Limited. Ordered to do.

A Pemra statement said that the 15-year term of Bol Entertainment’s license had expired in December 2021 and the entity has not submitted any application to the authority for license renewal.

Shortly after this announcement by PEMRA, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan has condemned the decision to stop broadcasting Bol News in a message on his Twitter account.
