Pemex gas stations increase – Diario de Yucatán

MEXICO CITY (El Universal).— From July 2022 to last April, 444 more service stations have been incorporated as part of the Petróleos Mexicanos (Pemex) franchises.

The number of stations operated by the state-owned company increased from 6,813 to 7,257 in the same period, which represents a growth of 6.5%.

Pemex CEO Octavio Romero Oropeza explained that until the energy reform there were 12,500 gas stations operating under the oil company’s brand, but with the entry of new participants it was expected that 12,500 additional stations would be built, which did not happen and private companies kept Pemex gas stations.

“The 12,500 stations that had been promised were not built, they kept Pemex’s clients and took away 6,000 stations from us and began to compete in that way,” he said.

Over the years, Romero Oropeza said, it has been difficult for the company to recover the lost market; however, there has been considerable progress, not only in the area of service stations, but also in the percentage of sales that Pemex concentrates throughout the country.

“We have been recovering that lost market and, in the matter of gasoline, today we are at 87.5% of all that is sold in the country, we were at 80%, in diesel we were at 69% and today we are at 80%,” said the general director.

Of the total number of stations, 7,212 are managed by third parties and 45 are owned by Pemex Transformación Industrial (self-consumption service stations). Additionally, on the same date, 1,132 gas stations were registered under the brand sublicensing scheme, while 4,112 service stations operate with logos other than Pemex, but sell its fuels.

Furthermore, as part of the strengthening of the national oil company’s domestic sales, these have become its main source of income, and the executive indicated that this is not only stable but permanent, and that in turn they contribute to the financial strengthening of the company.

They sign agreement

Monta-Engil, which has been involved in the construction industry for 70 years, announced that it has signed a contract with Pemex Transformación Industrial for the construction of an industrial fertilizer plant in Escolín, Poza Rica, in the state of Veracruz.

In a statement, the private sector company indicated that the agreement between both companies is worth 1.2 billion dollars (mdd), prioritizing the development of engineering, construction and operation of a plant for the production of ammonia, urea and AdBlue with the objective of an annual production of some 700 thousand tons.

“The construction of this plant will reduce fertilizer imports and significantly strengthen the productive autonomy of the country’s agricultural sector,” the construction company said.

In the statement, Monta-Engil also reported that sustainable environmental solutions will be promoted by reducing emissions of polluting gases into the atmosphere, which will directly favor the incorporation of AdBlue in fuels.

Another innovation in this agreement is the contract under the “tolling” model, establishing that the client must deliver the raw materials and the other party will focus solely on the production and delivery of the final product.
