Pelosi, Sanders attack Netanyahu after his speech to Congress

United States – US Senator Bernie Sanders and former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi attacked Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu after his speech on Wednesday evening before members of the US Congress.

“Netanyahu is not only a war criminal, he is also a liar,” independent Senator Sanders said in a post on the X platform.

He added, “All humanitarian organizations confirm that tens of thousands of children are facing famine because his extremist government is preventing aid.”

“The Israelis don’t want Netanyahu in office, so he came to Congress to campaign,” he continued.

In turn, Pelosi wrote on her account on the “X” platform that Netanyahu’s speech was the worst foreign presentation before Congress.

“Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s speech was the worst presentation ever made by a foreign dignitary to address Congress,” she said.

She added: “The families of the prisoners are demanding a ceasefire deal and the return of their sons, and we hope that Netanyahu will devote his time to achieving this.”

Pelosi was absent from Netanyahu’s speech, in which he reiterated Israel’s claims that it had not committed war crimes against the Palestinians and had not blocked aid to the Gaza Strip. He also attacked the International Criminal Court and indicated that he would accept nothing less than a “complete victory” over Hamas in the war.

In his speech before Congress in Washington, Netanyahu called for providing Tel Aviv with more weapons to continue the devastating war on Gaza, which has claimed the lives of tens of thousands of civilians.

He also attacked the International Criminal Court, which had previously confirmed that Israel was starving Palestinians in Gaza, accusing it of “nonsense and fabrication.”

Netanyahu’s speech came amid massive protests by thousands of pro-Palestinian supporters in the streets of Washington, demanding an end to the war and an end to the supply of weapons to Israel.

Netanyahu said: “In order for the forces of civilization to prevail, the United States and Israel must stand side by side,” he said.

With the participation of Israeli soldiers and officers who took part in the devastating war on Gaza, about half of the Democratic members of the House of Representatives and Senate were absent from Netanyahu’s session before Congress, according to the American news website “Axios.”

The website said that many members of parliament, especially progressive critics of Israel, confirmed that they would clearly boycott the session in protest against Netanyahu’s continuation of the war in Gaza.

On Monday, Netanyahu arrived in the United States on a visit that will last until next Saturday, and he is scheduled to meet tomorrow, Thursday, with President Joe Biden, and later with his Vice President Kamala Harris.

Netanyahu will meet with Republican presidential candidate and former President Donald Trump in Florida on Friday, then return to Israel on Saturday evening.

As he arrived in the US capital, thousands of pro-Palestine supporters protested in Washington to express their dissatisfaction with Netanyahu’s policies towards the Palestinian Gaza Strip.
