U.S. House of Representatives Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s visit to Taiwan has sparked condemnation from all sides, and China has countered. Just as the situation in the Taiwan Strait is tense, Pelosi suddenly “gets close” to China.
According to reports from Fok News and other media, Pelosi ended her visit to Asia and held a press conference at the U.S. Embassy in Tokyo. At the meeting, Pelosi argued that she had no intention of changing the status quo in Asia or Taiwan, accusing China of trying to isolate Taiwan, but she would not allow it to happen, her travel itinerary was not arranged by China, and neither might the Chinese government.
Pelosi then changed the conversation and talked regarding her special connection with China. She also pointed out that she was told when she was a child that as long as she dug a deep enough hole on the beach, she might reach China. After finishing this speech on the link, Pelosi continued to criticize China, saying that if the United States does not speak up for human rights because of China’s commercial interests, the United States will lose its authority and cannot speak for human rights in the rest of the world.
Pelosi’s “China connection theory” has caused echoes on overseas social media. Clay Travis, founder of the American media Outkick, sarcastically said, “We (America) are led by idiots.” Some netizens also teased “what Pelosi is saying”, “are you telling a joke”, and described “is there a possibility that Pelosi’s mother just told this story because she didn’t want to see her.”
It is worth mentioning that, in response to Pelosi’s running to the stage, former President Trump, starting from August 5th, for two consecutive days, issued a document blasting Pelosi’s madness, describing her meddling in it, which would cause huge differences and hostility. “Everything she touches turns into chaos and destruction” and “only makes it worse”,
On the same day that Pelosi ended her visit to Asia, State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi attended a series of foreign ministers’ meetings on East Asia cooperation in Phnom Penh, and held a press conference following the meeting to comprehensively elaborate on China’s position on the Taiwan issue.
Wang Yi said that US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, in disregard of China’s firm opposition and repeated representations, was in fact under the connivance and arrangement of the US government and blatantly visited Taiwan, China. Of course, China should make a firm response.
He reiterated that China’s position is justified, reasonable and legal; its measures are firm, forceful and appropriate; the military exercises are open, transparent and professional, in line with domestic law, international law, and international practice, in order to warn the perpetrators of “Taiwan independence” Forces punish.
In response to the U.S. claim that China has changed the status quo across the Taiwan Strait, Wang Yi said that this is complete rumors and slander. The communique on the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and the United States in 1978 clearly emphasized that the government of the People’s Republic of China is the only legitimate government representing the whole of China, and Taiwan is a part of China. This is the status quo across the Taiwan Strait that has remained unchanged for decades. But this status quo has indeed been broken. The spoiler is not China, but the separatist forces of the United States and Taiwan.
