According to a March survey by the agency Ipsos pro Diary of N Pellegrini won 37.4 percent of the votes and Korčok 36.6 percent of the votes in the first round of elections. The former president of the Supreme Court Štefan Harabin (66), who received the vote of 11.3 percent of the respondents, would finish third, and the ex-prime minister Igor Matovič (50), who would receive 4.3 percent of the vote, would finish fourth.
In the second decisive round, Pellegrini would defeat Korčok in a ratio of 53.4 percent to 46.6 percent of the vote and become the new Slovak president.
The decisive factor that would decide in Pellegrini’s favor might be the voters of Harabin, who might support the speaker of the parliament in the second round. At Tuesday’s meeting with voters in Zvolen, Harabin stated that if elected, he would not make his first foreign visit to the Czech Republic, as has been the custom for a long time. He said that the Czech Republic is a state that supports fascism and its first steps would be towards Moscow. He also said that the Czech president and prime minister behave awkwardly and “slavishly serve” the United States.
