The Mayor of Patreon, Kostas Peletidis and the Deputy Mayor Michalis Anastasiou, are candidates for the Board of Directors. of the Central Union of Municipalities of Greece (KEDE), in the elections that will be held tomorrow, Saturday, March 2, within the framework of the Congress that started today.
The Mayor, once once more, emphasizes the need for an assertive Board of Directors. of KEDE, the highest trade union body of the Municipalities, given that the government discredits “Self-Government” and wants to turn it into yet another state body.
As the Mayor had emphasized before the great mobilization of the city, “the problems arising from the insufficient funding of our Municipality, as of all Municipalities, have added up and there is no more. Of the 91 million euros that our Municipality should receive annually, 24 million are given to us by the state. This means that 67 million are “stolen” from us, while in TOTAL the Municipalities of the whole country should have been given 7.5 billion . euros and only 1.5 billion is given.”
The Mayor still emphasizes today, that “we cannot simply record the multitude of needs that arise due to insufficient funding, but to claim what we are entitled to and that is what the Board of Directors must do. of KEDE.
• Recruitment of permanent staff in all Municipal services.
• To return to the Municipalities the withheld money owed to them by the Governments.
• Do not pass the privatization of water and water utilities.
• Permanentization of contract holders who work with continuous contracts and cover fixed and lasting needs, with state funding.
• Repeal of the reactionary Voridis provision which obliges the Municipalities to appeal to a higher court level any positive court decisions won by the employees.
• Complete anti-seismic, anti-flood, anti-fire protection. To stop Municipalities being financed with less than 30% of the money they spend on Civil Protection.
• Abolition of the unfair waste burial fee. Governments are solely responsible for the collapse of the privatized recycling system.
• Funding of School Committees in line with their needs and a comprehensive school housing program under the responsibility of the state. The funding of the School Committees is less and less every year and it is not enough to meet the needs of our children, not even for cleaning.
• To stop the transfer of responsibilities to the Municipalities, without the necessary funding and sufficient staff, which leads to the further commercialization and privatization of a series of services and the passing on of costs to the citizens, through their double and triple taxation.
