During his presentation at the IV Business Summit of the Americas, in Los Angeles, United States, the Peruvian president assured that the food crisis adds to the problems generated by the COVID-19 pandemic and the economic problems that affect countries in all the world.

“In addition, there is the imminence of a food crisis generated from the conflict in Ukraine, and a growing global uncertainty due to high levels of inflation and problems in supply chains”he asserted.

President Castillo Terrones said that following the pandemic and due to climate change, there are 161 million people in food insecurity around the world, but the World Bank estimates that the war between Russia and Ukraine might add 40 million people to this group.

“That is why today there is an urgent need for concerted international action and a comprehensive set of political responses at the national level with the aim of building in our region more prosperous, democratic, equitable and just societies in which our peoples have access to better opportunities for a decent lifehighlighted the head of state.

Pedro Castillo included during his speech an invocation for businessmen worldwide to invest in Peru, where he pointed out that there is a dynamic economy that enjoys value-added resources.

Pedro Castillo on famine
