The delegation of the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights (IACHR) visited former president Pedro Castillo this Thursday, in the Barbadillo prison (Ate), where he is serving 18 months in preventive detention.

“We met with the ex-president and his technical defense and verified that the prison conditions are in line with those provided for in the Penal Enforcement Code,” the Ombudsman’s Office specified.

For its part, INPE indicated that it provided all the facilities for entry to the delegation of the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights.
“In the morning hours, INPE provided the facilities for representatives of the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights to enter the Barbadillo Penitentiary, where they held a meeting, in private, with inmate Pedro Castillo,” they said on Twitter.

The IACHR announced this Tuesday the beginning of his visit to Peru and reported the presence of his Executive Secretary, Tania Reneaum Panszi, in Lima and in other areas of the country from December 20 to 22.

They indicated that the agenda includes meetings with state authorities and organizations “to receive information regarding the institutional crisis and the protests.”
On the night of Wednesday the 21st, Pedro Castillo requested, on his Twitter account, that a meeting be held between the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights (IACHR) and his lawyer Wifredo Arturo Robles Rivera.
