Congress prevented him from traveling to Colombia
With 67 votes once morest, 42 votes in favor and five abstentions, The plenary session of Congress did not approve on August 4 the project that sought to authorize the president to leave the country for the inauguration of the Colombian presidentGustav Petro.
Legislator Adriana Tudela, of Avanza País, explained the reasons why President Pedro Castillo should not be allowed to leave the country, since in the current circumstances the signs of corruption in his government are “overwhelming and abundant.”
“He attends a protocol act, so it is not necessary for him to travel, and the Foreign Minister can very well go. Our responsibility is that the president render accounts to the people he claims to represent,” he said.
Alexander Soto, from Alliance for Progress, indicated at that time that it was necessary to take into account that the president is immersed in five tax investigations. He stated that the trip was protocol and will not alter the relations we have with Colombia.
Pedro Castillo remained silent before the Prosecutor’s Office
President Pedro Castillo decided to remain silent during the diligence in the Prosecutor’s Office to answer for the Petroperú cases and the works awarded by the Ministry of Housing, and the departure of Mariano González from the Ministry of the Interior.
Castillo replicated the strategy that he applied in the interrogation for the case of alleged irregular promotions in the Armed Forces (FF.AA.) and the National Police of Peru (PNP), where he also chose to remain silent. Something that his lawyer justified.
After almost three hours at the headquarters of the Public Ministry, the head of state left the Prosecutor’s Office without making any statements to the press.
