Pedophilia scandal

Construction Minister János Lázár, known for his pithy words, would personally be in favor of the death penalty in the case of pedophile offenders.
He said this at a press conference on Thursday, which was actually scheduled for a different topic. “As far as I’m concerned, János Vásárhelyi might rot in prison like all pedophile sex offenders,” the minister freely explained regarding the pardon scandal, which wasn’t even regarding director János V. He forced boys from the children’s home in Bicske to perform oral sex and was sentenced to eight years in prison for it.
Accomplice placed in house arrest far too early
The scandal that led to the resignation of President Katalin Novák revolved primarily around the deputy home director Endre K., who covered his boss’s back and was also sent behind bars for it.
Lázár also called him by his full name at the press conference: “Endre Kónya has no place in the priesthood, he also belongs behind bars. It hurts and makes you angry that this accomplice was placed under house arrest far too early.”
In the case of director János V., however, he would have preferred at least 25 years in prison or the death penalty, because the man, whose homosexual inclination was known, had possibly sexually assaulted hundreds of boys over the decades without being disturbed.
At the same time, Lázár rejected criticism that the resigned President and the government had not shown their compassion for the victims.
Deep compassion for the children
“Katalin Novák also asked for forgiveness from the victims of the scandal on behalf of the government. We all have deep sympathy for the children.” Even stricter legal standards must now ensure that something like this can never happen once more – if the past cannot be corrected.
Lázár expressed shock at the findings of the investigation ordered by the prime minister in February. It turned out that the first investigations once morest the home director in 2011 with 35 witnesses did not substantiate any suspicions.
The reason: The psychologists and home educators interviewed at the time said regarding the advertisements that the children were not telling the truth. Later, the home director, who was still considered to have no criminal record, was even nominated for several awards.
