The International Peace Half Marathon, a race taking place in Luanda, the Angolan capital, was postponed until September, due to the country’s recent suspension by the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA), due to non-compliance with the conformation of the Anti-Doping Law, recently approved by the National Assembly on February 28th, according to the note that the newspaper OPAÍS had access to.
The annual competition, whose third edition was supposed to be held on April 4th, Peace Day in Angola, was transferred as a precautionary measure. After the approval of the Law, which is awaiting promulgation, the world body to combat doping in sport should only receive it next May.
In this way, Angola is prevented from using national symbols, raising the Flag and the Anthem of the Republic, in a first phase, which might lead to exclusion from competitions abroad and the removal of Angolan staff from international institutions.
In light of this imbroglio, the president of the Angolan Olympic Committee (COA), Gustavo da Conceição, said that in May the diploma will reach WADA.
Because of this, it is important to remain calm, since the most important thing is that you have worked on the diploma and it is approved.
“We need to remain calm and continue working to get out of this situation”, said the COA president. Gustavo da Conceição, already president of the Angolan Basketball Federation (FAB), has extensive experience in international sports leadership.
