The Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDIP) will soon hold an internal meeting to respond to the Constitutional Court (MK) ruling Number 60 regarding the minimum threshold for political parties to nominate candidates in the 2024 Regional Elections.

PDIP spokesman Chico Hakim said he was very grateful and happy about the Constitutional Court’s decision to lower the minimum threshold percentage for political parties to nominate regional head candidates. According to him, the decision is a victory for democracy.

“Another decision is also related to the age limit for running for office, which is 30 years old when the KPU determines the candidate. Second, this decision for us is a victory for democracy. We will see later what the party’s attitude is. Of course, the DPP will hold a meeting soon,” said Chico to Indonesian MediaTuesday (20/8).

He also conveyed the issue of whether PDIP is opening up the opportunity to nominate Anies Baswedan in this year’s regional elections or not. The decision will most likely change the overall nomination map in various regions in Indonesia.

“Just wait for the decision, especially related to several regional elections throughout Indonesia, not just the Jakarta election. We have not decided yet. However, the main thing is that cadres are prioritized in regional elections wherever they are. We always prepare our cadres to occupy top positions in a region through party schools, training and of course preparation. We just wait for the decision from the DPP and of course Ibu Ketum (Megawati),” said Chico.

Even so, he said PDIP is still open to the door and possibly in the future in the Jakarta Pilkada will carry Anies Baswedan. “It is still open to other figures, including Mas Anies. We will see the decision later,” he concluded. (J-2)
