Sub-prefect Rodrigo Quiroz, head of the Osorno Homicide Brigade, gave more details regarding an event that has shocked this city, where a 65-year-old man confessed to his daughters that he had killed his wife, whom they believed had been missing for more than 20 years.
Impacto generated the news of a man who confessed to his daughters that he had killed his wife 24 years ago in Osorno, in the Los Lagos region. After the investigations carried out by the Homicide Brigade, bones and clothing that belonged to the victim were found.
The incident dates back to 1998, when the man worked as a farm worker on a private property near Osorno, the same place where his partner’s body was buried.
Rodrigo Quiroz, chief deputy prefect of the Osorno Homicide Brigade, explained that on June 5 a woman approached the unit’s premises, stating that “her father, a 65-year-old man, had confessed to having murdered her mother. , in this case the wife of the victimizer in 1998”.
Given this, a broad operation was activated in coordination with the Public Ministry, “thus achieving a rural property, a private area, where an excavation is carried out by detectives from this brigade (BH) in which they finally found the discovery of human bones”, added the sub-prefect.
After the disappearance, the subject always assured that the woman had left of her own free will, but her daughters doubted that version.
Because the event occurred when the old penal system was in force, the records “passed to the Criminal Court because the execution of the crime occurred in 1998.”
PDI gives details of the confession
The head of the Osorno Homicide Brigade described the case of the man who confessed to having killed his wife 24 years ago as a unique case, of which there are no records.
The story was given in his capacity as a patient, where he declared that jealousy led him to commit the act.
Subprefect Rodrigo Quiroz, head of the specialized unit of the Investigation police of Osorno, said that following the complaint of one of the three daughters of the current 65-year-old man, the proceedings began that had a very detailed correlation.
“The confession was taken, a good statement, very exhaustive, in which he tells all the details. She even hands over the place where he would eventually have buried her,” Quiroz specified.
To this he added that “along with experts from the Puerto Montt Criminalistics Laboratory, they went to the scene. An excavation was carried out and the detectives of this brigade were able to determine that shortly following digging, bone remains were found which presumably might correspond to this woman. Thus, she enhances and confirms the subject’s confession.”
As it is a crime perpetrated 24 years ago, the prescription of the case would correspond, understanding that justice gives the maximum term to initiate a judicial process 15 years of committing a criminal act, records that are in the possession of the Osorno Criminal Court, and where the Prosecutor’s Office only intervened in establishing the teams participating in the procedure.
In the context of expert work, the participation of an expert in skeletons is considered as a complement to the task of Legal Medical Service that compares DNA samples.
Jealousy led him to commit the crime
The civil police official declared that there are no records of a case that accounts for a late confession, and pointed out that the man recognized a sick jealousy that led him to commit a crime that keeps a family torn apart.
“Basically jealousy. The crime was committed when she was 31 years old, she was the owner of the house”, detailed the sub-prefect.
Thus, it also indicated that “the subject remained for all these years under the premise that his wife had voluntarily left the home. With that version he stuck to it for all these years.”
“In this case there is a confusion of feelings on the part of the children, because we are in the presence of them realizing that their father killed their mother. And secondly, because his father is in a delicate health condition, so no one can guarantee that perhaps in the short term he may die, ”Quiroz specified.
Finally, it will be the Osorno criminal judge who will decide the fate of this case, and the essential task of the Legal Medical Service in terms of expert reports.
