The Investigative Police (PDI) of the O’Higgins Region discovered a 15-meter-long tunnel in an empty site that was located a few meters from the vaults of the Prosegur company, in the central sector of the city of Rancagua.

The discovery was made thanks to the joint work of PDI troops with the Anti-Narcotics Brigade and the commune’s Robbery Investigation Brigade.

In turn, 10 subjects between 20 and 50 years old of Chilean nationality, who had their homes in the Metropolitan Region, were arrested. While some already had a history of robbery.

“The importance of this procedure is to prevent them from entering the vault of a money security company, since they were building a tunnel for that purpose,” said Subprefect Cristián González, head of the Mostazal Robbery Investigative Brigade.

The tunnel was 15 meters long and three meters deep, and there were just a few meters left for it to reach the company’s vaults, as detailed by the PDI.

According to sources in the case, the criminals had been planning and excavating the tunnel for two months, until they were surprised in a “suspicious” attitude inside a van in the city’s Alameda.
