I would like, I wouldn’t like, but if you want. Or rather, the bold descents and climbs of the Tuscan Democratic Party in view of the 2025 regional elections. The point of the discussion is to confirm or not as a candidate the incumbent governor, the eternal Eugenio Giani, a sort of proactive Joe Gambardella, who only wants the power to participate in the celebrations. Elly Schlein’s supporters are in turmoil: “enough of suffering, we have already paid the price by recognizing Dario Nardella as mayor of Florence, and Matteo Biffoni as mayor of Prato. We cannot pretend that our party has remained that of Matteo Renzi in disguise”. So the proof of existence in life would be to raise one’s head and ask the current President to step down. The one who in the chats is ironically defined as the person responsible for the “festivals”, for his ability to travel far and wide across the territory, from Lunigiana to Maremma, even if often arriving after the festival is over, due to his legendary delays. And who but Emiliano Fossi, current regional secretary, deputy of the first circle, as well as former mayor of Campi Bisenzio, a large town in the Florentine plain, would have the best profile to interpret the new course? Fossi is responsible for wiping out all the governor’s warhorses, with a series of noes: to the stock market listing of the multiutility, to the toll on the Florence Pisa Livorno highway, to the lowering of the Irpef. Which is like saying, in any case next time, “we’ll hold the wheel in our hands”.

Ensuring that the Region, which was the first sounding board for the “scrapper”, takes a left turn. Going beyond the Governor who says yes to everything, in the name of a wise rule of life, taking advantage of every announced turn to then make it totally colorless. In the fantasy politics that animates the Tuscan summer, Giani continues to do his job, agreeing with anyone, even Emiliano Fossi, but to those who understand, he remembers that he has the support of 170 mayors, out of the 273 in the Region, the power of inaugurations, which are the other specialty of the house. The governor presents himself as the true inspirer of the broad field, and the only one capable of annexing all the residual votes of the centrists and Italia Viva, with the preparation of two civic lists. The problems for him are elsewhere: in his PD (in Florence the “comrades” have closed the doors of the council to his Cristina Manetti) as well as in the Left of Nicola Fratoianni and in the M5S. They are the inspirers of the “test” of pride: let’s send the ex-socialist home, Emiliano, try.

Fossi, of course, thinks about it, reaching the top of the Region, would certainly be in line with his ambitions, a natural evolution also for Elly Schlein, the secretary who for now has distinguished herself for her steps backwards, if there is something to administer, she (and hers) are not in the game. And compared to the omnivorous Giani, Fossi has something to offer: his seat in the Chamber. The regional secretary of the Democratic Party is not even the only “fantasy” president of the summer, even Simona Bonafè and Matteo Biffoni, would gladly take the place of the President who wants to participate in the parties, in the meantime others will take care of making them fail. And in the meantime Vincenzo De Luca snatches the third mandate in Campania.
