After having deprived himself of a salary for two years at the head of his political formation, Éric Duhaime had asked the party to pay him “roughly the equivalent” of a deputy’s salary, or $ 101,561 according to the website of the National Assembly.
In mid-November, the National Executive Bureau of the PCQ finally made the decision to pay Éric Duhaime a higher salary approaching what he would have received as the leader of a recognized parliamentary group in parliament, i.e. $130,000 annually. .
“Taking into consideration the context of the party, as well as the precedent created for Paul St-Pierre Plamondon, it was the National Executive Office that offered this salary to Mr. Duhaime,” said his press officer by text message. .
By way of comparison, the basic allowance for the leaders of the second and third opposition is $137,107 per year.
Thanks to its electoral results, the PCQ is in better financial health than ever. Having collected 530,786 votes in the last ballot, the party will receive $1,390,659 each year for the next four years, as one vote currently represents $2.62 per year, per voter. Note that this amount is indexed each year.
During the mandate, the PCQ will therefore collect at least $5.5 million in funding from the Chief Electoral Officer of Quebec (DGEQ) for each vote obtained.
