PC Gaming, Windows 11 passes the 30% market share mark

Windows 11 is now Microsoft’s priority. The giant is trying to accelerate its adoption but its popularity is not yet as high as desired.

This is not surprising given its minimum system requirements. It makes it impossible for it to be adopted by a very large number of computers, which are nevertheless perfectly capable of running it in good conditions. This explains why many people are sticking with Windows 10 at the moment.

Windows 11, the 30% bar is crossed

The latest stats from Steam’s hardware and software survey still show that its market share is improving. On the other hand, we are in a somewhat particular segment of the market, that of gaming.

In January 2023, Microsoft’s new operating system passed the 30% mark to reach 30.33%. It increased by almost 2 points (1.91%) in the space of a month. Is it the effect of the Christmas holidays that allowed some players to renew their equipment?

Windows 10 remains the number 1 destination with a presence of 63.46%. It is interesting to note that it is down 1.96%, a value close to the progression of Windows 11. Is this an index partially confirming our hypothesis? For its part, Windows 7 64-bit is still present with a market share of 1.6%.

The 64-bit version of Windows 7 is far behind with 1.60%.

Recently Microsoft announced the activation of the automatic upgrade to Windows 11 22H2 for Windows 11 PCs. The firm clarified

We’re starting to automatically update consumer and unmanaged devices running Windows 11 21H2 Home and Pro editions to Windows 11 22H2. Starting with Windows 10, we’ve been helping Windows users stay up-to-date and secure with supported versions of Windows with Automatic Updates. We use this same approach for Windows 11 to help you stay protected and productive. The automatic update to Windows 11 22H2 will be done gradually starting with devices that have been using the 21H2 version for a long time. As always, you’ll have the option to choose a convenient time for your device to restart and complete the update.
