HEAD of PP PBSI Development and Achievement Division Ricky Soebagdja said he would call the Minions Marcus Fernaldi Gideon/Kevin Sanjaya Sukamuljo following Marcus’ recent decision to retire.

Meanwhile, Marcus Gideon announced in early March via social media that he had decided to end his career as a professional badminton player which he had had for 25 years.

Ricky revealed that Marcus had given his resignation letter to the federation before he left to accompany the athletes competing on the European tour.

“Later, I still want to meet them, I asked what their condition is like. The letter seems to have arrived, it’s just a matter of what the response will be,” said Ricky as quoted by BetweenWednesday (27/3).

“The two of them (were called), they are a couple. The (resignation) letter was (from) Marcus, I just wanted to call them both to ask regarding their continuation (career in badminton),” he added.

Furthermore, Ricky said there were other considerations for participating
calling Kevin is because he is still in the National Pelatnas Decree this year. However, Ricky revealed that Kevin had never trained with other athletes at the PBSI National Training Center.

“But the point is that he has received a Pelatnas decree, he should follow (the regulations). So, regarding this matter, we will ask how it goes. After all, Kevin and Marcus are players with extraordinary achievements. So there must also be communication for him to continue,” explained Ricky.

“If it’s clear for Gideon, he’s resigning. What happens next for Kevin, will he still be committed to playing, will we find a partner or what will happen later, we don’t know yet,” he added.

The 1996 Atlanta Olympic gold medalist added that there are several coaches who are also likely to meet Marcus/Kevin, namely men’s doubles coach Aryono Miranat and PBSI coach Rionny Mainaky in the near future.

He hopes that the meeting will clarify Kevin’s future in the world of badminton, whether he still wants to compete with new colleagues or follow in Marcus’ footsteps.

“From my point of view as vice president, Kevin can actually still exist in his capacity as a player. Moreover, in men’s doubles, the Daddies (Hendra Setiawan/Mohammad Ahsan) can still play. It just depends on how committed he is, I still hope he can attract other players. players under him,” explained Ricky.

Meanwhile for Marcus, Ricky also hopes that the federation can provide a special event to appreciate his career and achievements for more than two decades for Indonesian badminton.

“There should be (a farewell event), in whatever form the event takes. So let it go well,” he said. (Z-6)
