SECRETARY General of the Central Board of the All Indonesia Badminton Association (PP PBSI) Fadil Imran stated that he will conduct a comprehensive evaluation of the results of the 2024 Paris Olympics.

In Paris 2024, badminton fielded a composition of nine athletes accompanied by six coaches. As a result, badminton contributed its first medal, a bronze, from women’s singles Gregoria Mariska Tunjung after Carolia Marin from Spain was injured and could not continue her performance in the semifinals.

Meanwhile, the steps of Indonesia’s mainstay men’s singles and third seeds Jonatan Christie and Anthony Sinisuka Ginting, women’s doubles Apriyani Rahayu/Pitha Haningtyas Mentari, and mixed doubles Rinov Rivaldy/Pitha Haningtyas Mentari had to stop early in the group stage.

Meanwhile, Fajar Alfian/Muhammad Rian Ardianto were eliminated in the quarter-finals of the 2024 Olympics after losing to the top seeds, Liang Wei Keng/Wang Chang.

“I appreciate not only Gregoria but all of them, I say thank you for the sacrifice of time, energy and thoughts. I do not see it from the side of losing and winning, but from the perspective that they have tried, that is what I must appreciate and say thank you for,” said Fadil in his statement, (5/8).

Specifically for Gregoria, Fadil, who is also the Head of the Olympic AdHoc Team, expressed his gratitude for the medal won. Although fighting alone in the semifinals, Gregoria was said to have performed optimally to give her best achievement.

“Gregoria really showed the spirit of a professional athlete. I really appreciate them,” he said.

Furthermore, PBSI said Fadil would hold discussions and conduct a comprehensive evaluation of the results achieved by badminton at the 2024 Paris Olympics.

“Of course, for all these achievements, everyone feels sad and devastated. I feel the same way. We will conduct a thorough evaluation after returning home,” said Fadil.

“Later I will prepare a forum, I will invite all of us, we will get input from the media, badminton observers, badminton lovers about what we have to fix in the future and PBSI will be responsible for the results in Paris,” he added. (Z-6)
