PAX Aeroportos took over the operation of Jacarepaguá Airport, in Rio de Janeiro, at the beginning of September (1). The concessionaire already operates Campo de Marte Airport, in São Paulo, managed since August 15th.
Located in Barra da Tijuca, one of the most valued spots in the city, the equipment is the busiest at the dealership, with more than 90 thousand flights per year. The largest flow is due to offshore operations, with intense helicopter traffic going to and from the oil platforms located in front of the coast of Rio. The airport also has an important Azul Conecta operation connecting Jacarepaguá to Congonhas with several flights per day .
“In addition to executive aviation, a characteristic it shares with Campo de Marte, Jacarepaguá has a very special operation. Geographically, we have a privileged location for flights to oil platforms, as the Santos Basin, currently the most productive in the country, is right in front of Barra da Tijuca beach. Every day, there are more than 150 flights by large helicopters”, says Rogerio Prado, CEO of PAX Aeroportos.
Among the improvements that PAX will make at the airport are:
Renovate and improve the airport’s passenger terminal within six months;
Enable the runway system for non-precision approach operation, without restrictions, night and day, of code 2B aircraft (capable of taking off on runways from 800 to 1,200m, at sea level, and wingspans up to 24m), enabling service of larger equipment;
Revitalize the PAPI (Precision Approach Path Indicator) visual approach ramp indicator system – a light system that helps aircraft approach runway thresholds.
