Meanwhile, Paweł Szopa’s defense attorney, attorney Bartosz Lewandowski, announced that he would file an appeal against the court’s decision to temporarily arrest his client. According to him, the court issued the decision “in a closed session, without notice, without allowing the defense lawyers to take the stand,” and this is “inadmissible.”

Unfortunately, yesterday a decision was made to take into account the prosecutor’s office’s appeal against the decision not to apply arrest to me. It was made during a court session in which my defense attorneys were prevented from participating. In this way, I was deprived of the right to defend myself and the chances for a fair and just trial were put into question,” writes the creator of Red is Bad.

“Not wanting to participate in the media spectacle, I have filed a motion through my defense attorneys to issue a safe conduct letter. It will allow me to appear before the court and give detailed testimony. I hope that the motion will be accepted and that I will be able to present all the evidence that significantly differs from the course of events described by the media based on leaks,” the entrepreneur wrote in a statement.

Let us recall that an arrest warrant was issued for the founder of the Red is Bad clothing brand, Paweł Szopa. Earlier, the District Court in Katowice approved his arrest for 90 days.

The scandal surrounding the entrepreneur broke out in the context of the role that RARS played in combating the COVID-19 epidemic in Poland. Onet had previously reported suspicions that during the rule of Law and Justice, there had been irregularities in the management of public funds, involving the creator of “Red is Bad”, who was to become a supplier of a wide range of products – from protective equipment to power generators. He received orders without a tender. In In just three years, Szopa RARS could have transferred as much as half a billion zlotys to the accounts of various companies.
