Pavlos Christidis brings the new taxation on amateur fishing boats to the Parliament with his question

The great concern that has been caused by the imposition of a new tax on amateur fishing boats, is reflected by his question in the Parliament, Pavlos Christidis, MP of PASOK – Movement for Change, speaking of “for a “tax” horizontal and unfair, regardless of its value vessel, its purpose of use and its ownership nature”. The question to the Ministers of Shipping – Island Policy and Finance is also co-signed by MPs Naya Grigorakou and Christina Staraka.

As it is characteristically stated, “in the context of the new tax policy applied to small and medium recreational marine vessels, we would like to understand the reason why the government has decided to impose an annual tax on these vessels. In particular, it appears that approximately 100,000 owners of recreational pleasure boats – including our traditional boats – are obliged to pay a second-class boat tax, from 100 to 200 euros.

Questioning MPs point to the importance of recreational fishing and boating to our country and therefore the inequality created by such a “horizontal and unfair measure”.

In this context, addressing the competent Ministers Christos Stylianidis and Kostis Hatzidakis, they ask:

  • Do you think that the imposition of this tax can discourage the development and maintenance of this activity? If not, is your position supported by thorough empirical data?
  • Are you planning to codify the measure and review it?
  • Will you see to it that amateur fishermen are exempted from this absurd and unjust measure?
