Kochi: Pazuthara was found in the biryani at Mattancherry Kaias Hotel. This is when a family from Thrissur had food from the hotel on Friday followingnoon. This has been confirmed in the inspection conducted by the officials of the Food Safety Department. Unhygienic conditions in the hotel were also found during the inspection. Following this, the food safety department closed the hotel.

An inspection of the hotel’s kitchen found rats and rat droppings. Ernakulam district is a place where hotels operate with slight differences from many of the best selling hotels. However, many of these have poor quality food and unsanitary conditions.

In the last six days two people have died due to food poisoning in the state and it is believed that the authorities will tighten the inspection. Anjushree Parvathy, a native of Kasaragod, died of food poisoning following eating gourds on Saturday morning. Anushree Dighimintri ate at the Kasaragod Sokatbayal Al Romance Hotel. Rashmi, a nurse, died last Monday following consuming alfam brought from ‘Malappuram Kokhimanti’ hotel in Kottayam Sankranti.
