In Burkina Faso, Lieutenant-Colonel Paul-Henri Sandaogo Damiba’s resignation speech was transmitted to RFI, then broadcast on Facebook. Recorded on Sunday October 2, the former president of the transition looks back on the events of this weekend.
Paul-Henri Sandaogo Damiba is particularly upset that theattack on Gaskindé’s convoyin the Soum, Monday, September 26, served “ ferment to reinforce misunderstandings, tensions, criticisms within populations and forces, instead of being a moment of mourning ».
The former president of the transition gives his version of the events that led to his resignation: ” Before our dead might be buried […] some units of our military forces, with civilian and political sympathizers, driven by individualistic, subjective motivations and prevailing some frustrations and claims which should be able to find solutions in other consultation frameworks, converged massively towards sensitive areas. The stated objective was clear: to interrupt the transition. Their actions caused two deaths, nine injuries and material damage. Faced with the risks of division within our army and considering the higher interest of Burkina Faso, I renounced as of today, October 2, my function as Head of State, President of the Transition. »
Lieutenant-Colonel Paul-Henri Sandaogo Damiba also sends a message to the new authorities in place: “ To the new authorities of Faso, I wish them success. I invite them to work, especially to unite rather than disperse and to carry their responsibilities as a priesthood. »
