Paul “Gazza” Gascoigne asks Manchester United to take an unconventional approach – Nettavisen

It has been a difficult start to the season for the Dutch manager. Manchester United is in 14th place in the league, and has drawn in the first two games in the Europa League against Porto and Twente respectively.

The former star player is convinced that Erik ten Hag‘s time at Old Trafford should be over. In an interview with SportsCastingUK he says that he “feels sorry for ten Hag”.

As the Dutchman’s replacement, he launches Manchester United’s perhaps greatest legend.

Will see legend on the coaching bench

He wants to see 82-year-old Sir Alex Ferguson back on the coaching bench, more than twelve years after he gave up.

– I would like Ferguson to take over, just for one season, and see what he can do with these players. I think some of them are ruining ten Hag. You have to give the man some respect and it’s such a massive club, I don’t think any of the players realize who they’re playing for.

He has particularly noticed Marcus Rashford‘s performances and attitudes.

“I love Rashford and I think he’s an incredible player, but he doesn’t seem to care.” Even when he scores, he doesn’t seem happy about it, so there’s something going on there. If that’s the case, just move on.

He believes the key for Rashford will lie in leaving the British ball island.

– Rashford doesn’t seem happy about playing in England anyway. And some good clubs will try to get him. Go to Italy, it will shake him up. It shook me a little.

Warns Marcus Rashford

This is not the first time “Gazza” has spoken out about Manchester United’s winger. Earlier this year, after Rashford’s much-publicised “drunken ball”, he offered a mixture of warning and encouragement to Rashford.

– It is not easy to be in the center. If he feels like partying, I’ll say to Marcus: “Take a breath and think about it. What happens if this gets out?”. Because the next morning everyone will know. That’s what happens when you’re so famous, he said in an interview with Mirror.

Gascoigne has been open that he has struggled with major alcohol and drug problems.

– When I saw where Marcus was that night, I thought: “the last time I drank like that, I ended up in rehab”, he said at the time.

Manchester United host Brentford at Old Trafford on Saturday. By all accounts, Marcus Rashfordi will then be in the squad, while Sir Alex Ferguson is unlikely to be on the coaching bench.

The Great Football Circus: Manchester United Edition

Well, well, well. If it isn’t the Dutchman himself, Erik ten Hag, facing a Manchester United side that seems to have forgotten how to win – 14th in the league and about as threatening as a wet tissue. For those keeping score at home, United has, of course, managed to draw their first two Europa League matches against Porto and Twente. I mean, at this point, you have to wonder if the players think ‘draw’ is the goal!

Enter Paul Gascoigne, the former star player, who seems more convinced than ever that ten Hag’s time at Old Trafford should hit the eject button. While he admits to having “feelings of sympathy” for Erik, Gazza thinks the poor chap might need a bit of a lifeboat right about now.

Will Sir Alex Ferguson Save the Day?

Now, here’s where it starts to get really interesting. Gascoigne suggests that instead of a regular coaching change, he wants to see none other than the legendary Sir Alex Ferguson return to the touchlines. Yes, you heard that right! An 82-year-old man back in a tracksuit, shaking his fist at players and yelling “Get your act together!” Who wouldn’t pay to see that? Heaven knows, we need a little more drama in football!

“I think some of them are ruining ten Hag,” says Gazza, pointing fingers like a kid in class trying to deflect blame for not finishing his assignment. And can you really blame the guy? When players treat a game like it’s a day out at the park, it’s bound to irritate everyone who’s still paying attention. Ten Hag deserves respect, and let’s be honest, many of these players wouldn’t recognize a winning strategy if it slapped them in the face.

More alarmingly, Gazza’s laser focus seems to be fixated on Marcus Rashford. After all, Rashford is like that one friend we all have who’s incredibly talented yet always looks like he’d rather be at home with a tub of ice cream instead of working on his game. “I love Rashford; he’s incredible. But he just doesn’t seem to care,” Gazza notes, which, coming from him, feels a bit ironic as he reminisces about his own wild years on and off the pitch.

Could Italy Be the Answer?

Then Gazza tosses out an idea that sounds remarkably like an episode from a travel show. “Why not send Rashford to Italy? It shook me up,” he suggests as if returning a lost pet to a slightly less chaotic environment will somehow solve everything. “Go on, Marcus! Forget the British Isles! Grab a gelato and find yourself a quaint little villa!”

What a way to market Serie A — “Come for the pasta, stay for the sulking footballers!” But on a serious note, can anyone truly understand the pressure these lads face? Gazza even gives Rashford a bit of a life lesson, “Take a breath and think about your choices. Fame comes with cameras, mate!” And if we’re being truthful, it’s really easy to get lost in a night out when cameras aren’t filming – just ask any celebrity!

A Cautionary Tale

Though, it’s coming from a man who has navigated his way through alcohol and rehab himself. “When I saw where Marcus was that night, I thought: ‘the last time I drank like that, I ended up in rehab!’” Perhaps Gazza’s just looking for a way to reach out, to say, “Hey mate, I’ve been there. Stop before you have to call an ambulance!”

At the end of the day, Manchester United faces Brentford this Saturday, and while Rashford will likely be on the pitch, let’s not hold our breath for Sir Alex to don his coaching shoes once more. But wouldn’t that be something? Talk about a plot twist more dramatic than a telenovela!

So, here’s to hoping Erik ten Hag finds his footing while desperately clutching his tactical notebook, and that Rashford finds a spark – and maybe a sparkly Italian suit – to reignite his passion for the beautiful game!
