It’s now been more than a week since Patrick Roy took over behind the Islanders bench.

In his debut as coach of the Isles, Roy faced a major challenge: the Stars outshot the Islanders 43 times to 28. Despite this, thanks to the heroic performances of goaltender Ilya Sorokin, who made 41 saves , the Islanders managed to extend the game. The UBS Arena exploded with joy when Bo Horvat scored the decisive goal, giving the Islanders a thrilling 3-2 victory.

However, since that heady start, the Islanders haven’t had it easy, posting three straight losses, including a heartbreaking 3-2 overtime loss to the Panthers on Long Island on Saturday night.

That said, there is nothing to worry regarding, the team is playing well and the victories should come. By then Patrick has started to implement his philosophy and is trying to break the players’ old habits.

Among the habits he is trying to change, he has introduced a new rule: no more lingering on the ice for additional exercises following training. From now on, everyone leaves together, which strengthens the team’s esprit de corps.

Some players like to stay following practices to have a little fun on an empty rink or to improve a detail of their game solo, but you will have to comply with the boss’s new demands.

Patrick has made it clear on several occasions that he wants to unite this team. This is just one example of the things he will change.
